Closed professions to be opened to EU citizens

Greece has until December to implement a 2006 European Union directive that removes legal and administrative barriers to services being provided by other EU nationals.

Μany obstacles and barriers exist in practice. There is a lack of information about the application procedure to obtain licences and permits. Other problems include discrimination on grounds of nationality.

Greece, for instance, requires scuba-diving instructors and English-language teachers to speak Greek even if they do not need it for their jobs. The application procedure to obtain licences and permits is also expensive and convoluted.
